Dates/Times:
Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:30PM
August 19-September 9 (tuition also includes tickets to September 13 StorySlam)

Description:

What’s your story? And how do you present yourself?

In this storytelling workshop, you will learn the essential elements that lead to a successful live performance of your own personal stories.  We'll focus on finding and developing your own style of storytelling, as well as capturing an audience with rich details that linger and unfold, and on being an authentic presence that they remember and enjoy.

Tuition includes a ticket to the First Person StorySlam on September 13, on the theme "It's in the Mail." All workshop participants will be automatically entered into the pool of names from which storytellers are chosen at the FPA Story Slam that night - and this course will give you the confidence and storytelling tools to make your performance a success.

Expect to interact with other participants, perform for the group, exchange feedback, judge each others’ stories and do plenty of self-reflection along the way. Do not expect lectures or many handouts. Bring a notebook or journal thats just for the storytelling workshop, and bring all your thoughts, fears, and considerations about performing. Dress comfortably. Plan to perform. Plan to breathe.

At First Person Arts Story Slams, storytellers are judged based on the content and presentation of their stories. Using those two scoring categories as our foundation, each of us will develop a polished story for performance at World Café Live on Monday September 13, 2010.

This will be a challenging and fun journey, appropriate for adults of all experience levels (even if you’ve never attended a StorySlam!). Using your experiences and feedback from others in the workshop, youll develop your own method for performance.
